Turkish draughts
Turkish draughts begins with a clear objective: capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them so they cannot make a move. Unlike standard checkers, this version uses a unique starting formation. Each player controls 16 checkers placed on the second and third rows of an 8x8 board. This setup leaves the first row empty and the middle rows open for immediate tactical engagement. The game focuses on orthogonal movement, meaning pieces move forward or sideways but never diagonally. This fundamental shift in geometry changes how you approach both offense and defense compared to other board games.
Capturing is mandatory in this version of the game. If a jump is available, you must take it. Pieces jump over an opponent's checker to an empty square immediately behind it, moving horizontally or vertically. If a single piece can make multiple jumps in one turn, it must continue until no more captures are possible. This mechanic allows for sweeping board clearances if you position your checkers correctly. A checker that reaches the final row becomes a king, gaining the ability to move any number of empty squares in a straight line, which significantly increases its threat level on the board.
Players have several ways to engage with the match. You can test your strategies against artificial intelligence to practice specific openings or defensive patterns. For a more social experience, the game supports two players on a single device, allowing for local head-to-head competition. There is also a multiplayer mode for connecting with opponents online. This variety ensures that you can find a match regardless of whether you are looking for a solo challenge or a competitive human encounter.
Spectating is a built-in feature that allows you to watch active matches between other players. While observing, you can analyze different playstyles and even suggest moves by interacting with the board. This collaborative element adds a layer of community interaction to the classic board game format. Each session is independent, meaning you start with a fresh board every time you begin a new game. The focus remains entirely on the tactical depth of the current match rather than long-term progression.

How to Play
To begin a match of Turkish draughts, you must first choose your game mode. You can select a solo match against the computer, a local two-player game, or an online multiplayer session. Once the game starts, you will see 16 checkers arranged on the second and third rows of your side of the board. Your goal is to eliminate all of your opponent's pieces or trap them so they have no legal moves remaining.
Movement is strictly horizontal and vertical. Click or tap a piece to select it, then select the destination square. You can move one square forward or to either side into an empty space. If an opponent's piece is adjacent to yours and there is an empty square directly behind it, you must jump over that piece to capture it. Capturing is mandatory, and if your piece can make another jump from its new position, you must continue the sequence until no more captures are possible.
When one of your checkers reaches the furthest row from you, it becomes a king. Kings are powerful because they can move any number of squares in a straight line, provided the path is clear. Use your kings to dominate the board and corner the remaining enemy pieces. The game ends when one player has lost all their checkers or is unable to move any of their remaining pieces.
