Retro Ping Pong
Retro Ping Pong
Retro Ping Pong centers on paddle precision and reaction speed across two distinct modes of play. In the classic arcade mode, the gameplay follows the traditional rules of table tennis where you must deflect a ball past your opponent's paddle. The action mode introduces environmental hazards and mechanical shifts that alter the behavior of the ball and the arena. You will encounter fireballs that move with increased speed, blasters that can impact the trajectory of the ball, and gravity wells that pull the ball toward specific points on the screen. These elements require constant adjustment to your movement and timing.
The game utilizes a physics-based system for ball bounces, meaning the angle and speed of your paddle at the moment of impact will determine the ball's return path. In action mode, each round introduces a special rule, ensuring that no two matches feel identical. You might find yourself dealing with shifting gravity in one round and rapid-fire projectiles in the next. This variety forces you to stay focused on the center of the screen while anticipating how the current rule will affect the ball's physics.
Matches are won by the first player to reach 7 points. This scoring system applies to both the single-player mode against the AI and the local two-player mode. The game is designed for desktop play, utilizing keyboard inputs for precise paddle placement. Because there is no persistence, every match is a standalone event. The lack of unlocks or rewards keeps the focus entirely on the skill of the volley. Whether you are playing the standard version or the hazard-filled action mode, the core objective remains the same: maintain the volley and outmaneuver the opposition through superior positioning.

How to Play
To start playing, choose between the Classic or Action game modes. In Classic mode, your goal is to move your paddle up and down to intercept the ball and bounce it back toward your opponent. Use the arrow keys for movement. If the ball passes your opponent's paddle, you earn a point. The first player to reach 7 points wins the match.
In Action mode, the rules change every round. You will need to adapt to new mechanics such as gravity wells that pull the ball or blasters that fire at the paddles. Pay close attention to the special rule displayed at the start of the round, as it will dictate how the ball moves. The physics of the ball will change based on these hazards, requiring more precise paddle placement than the standard mode.
For two-player matches, share the keyboard with a friend. The left player uses W and S while the right player uses the arrow keys. Since the game is designed for desktop play, ensure you have a keyboard connected. Each match is independent, and no progress is saved, so you can jump into a new game at any time to test your reflexes.
