English Checkers
English Checkers, also widely known as Draughts, offers a careful and tactical board game experience that rewards foresight and patience. Unlike fast-paced arcade titles, this game moves at the speed of your own decision-making, allowing for deep contemplation of every move. The atmosphere is one of mental competition, where the primary goal is to outmaneuver your opponent by capturing their pieces or blocking their ability to move. It is a classic test of logic that feels both traditional and intellectually stimulating, making it ideal for players who prefer strategy over reflexes.
Every match begins with a standard setup on the board, but the complexity quickly scales as pieces are exchanged. The game supports multiple ways to play, including matches against a computer opponent for solo practice, or local and online multiplayer for those who want to test their skills against other people. This versatility ensures that whether you are looking for a quiet session of brain training or a competitive match against a friend on the same screen, the game adapts to your preferred pace. The lack of a scoring system keeps the focus entirely on the win-loss outcome of the board state.
Strategic depth is found in the forced capture rule and the potential for chain captures. You must always be aware of the entire board, as a single move can trigger a sequence of jumps that drastically changes the balance of power. Reaching the far side of the board to promote a piece to a queen or king adds another layer of tactical planning, as these powerful units gain the ability to move both forward and backward. Because each session starts fresh, every game is a new puzzle to solve, providing endless replayability for fans of traditional board games who value clean, functional design.

How to Play
To start a game of English Checkers, first select your preferred mode: solo against the computer, online multiplayer, or local two-player on the same screen. Once the board is set, you will take turns moving your pieces diagonally forward. Use your mouse to click a piece and then click the destination square.
Capturing is a core mechanic you must master. If an opponent's piece is diagonally adjacent to yours and the square behind it is empty, you are required to jump over it and remove it from the board. If that jump lands you in a position to make another capture, you must continue the chain within the same turn. This can allow you to clear multiple enemy pieces at once.
Your ultimate goal is to either capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them so they have no legal moves left. If one of your checkers reaches the far edge of the board, it becomes a king. Kings are powerful because they can move and capture both forward and backward. Plan your moves carefully to protect your pieces while forcing your opponent into disadvantageous jumps.
