Dynasty War
Dynasty War is a strategy game set during the conflict of the Three Kingdoms in the Han Dynasty. Players assume the role of one of four rulers, each tasked with conquering a map of the Chinese land. The gameplay involves managing military forces, including eight different warrior types and eight cycle-able officers. Success in battle requires the strategic deployment of these units, along with the construction of buildings and the use of sorceries to gain an advantage over rivals. The game features increasingly difficult battles that test the player's ability to manage movement and tactics.
The tactical depth of the game is supported by two different movement modes for the army. These modes allow for advanced maneuvers on the battlefield, which are necessary to overcome the AI-controlled rivals. Players must choose three officers from their available pool of eight to lead their forces into each engagement. Upgrades play a significant role in progression, allowing for the enhancement of troops and magical abilities. The campaign structure is divided by ruler, with each offering a different level of difficulty ranging from Easy to Very Hard.
This single-player experience is designed for desktop play, utilizing mouse controls for all strategic decisions and unit movements. The game does not feature multiplayer, scoring, or persistent save systems, meaning each campaign attempt is a self-contained experience. The focus is on the historical setting and the mechanical execution of war tactics. Players must navigate the map, engage in real-time or turn-based tactical combat as defined by the game's engine, and slowly expand their territory to unify the land under their rule.
The four campaigns provide varied experiences based on the chosen ruler: Shu (Easy), Wei (Normal), Wu (Hard), and Lu Bu (Very Hard). This difficulty scaling allows players to start with more manageable challenges before attempting the more punishing Lu Bu campaign. The game emphasizes the atmosphere of ancient Chinese warfare through its unit types and sorcery mechanics, providing a focused strategy experience for fans of the Three Kingdoms era.

How to Play
To begin playing Dynasty War, select one of the four rulers from the main menu using your mouse. If you are new to the game, starting with the Shu campaign is recommended as it is set to Easy difficulty. Before entering your first battle, it is highly encouraged to view the in-game tutorial to understand the interface and unit controls. Once on the map, you will select territories to attack and engage your rivals in combat.
During a battle, you can deploy up to three officers from your pool of eight. Use your mouse to direct the movement of your eight different warrior types across the field. You have access to two different movement modes which allow for more precise tactical positioning. In addition to physical units, you can trigger sorceries and use buildings to support your troops. Managing these resources effectively is the key to defeating the enemy army.
As you win battles, you can access upgrades for your warriors and magical abilities. These improvements are necessary as the difficulty of the encounters increases as you move across the map. Because the game does not save progress between sessions, your goal is to complete the conquest of the Chinese land in a single sitting.
