Among Crowds starts you off as a small crewmate in a bustling, crowded space station. Your first objective is to move through the environment and collect various items scattered across the map. These items are the key to your survival and growth; as you pick them up, your character increases in both size and strength. This growth is not just for show, as it directly impacts your ability to interact with other players in the arena. The larger you become, the more powerful you are, allowing you to dominate the space station floor.

Strategy is essential as you navigate the crowded halls. While your goal is to grow, you must also be aware of your surroundings. The station is filled with other crewmates, some smaller than you and some much larger. You can consume smaller crewmates to absorb their strength and grow even faster. However, you are equally vulnerable to those who have grown larger than you. This creates a constant tension where you must decide when to hunt and when to hide. Using the environment to stay out of sight of massive opponents is just as important as finding items to eat.

As you absorb more crewmates and items, your presence on the map becomes more significant. The gameplay focuses on the balance between aggressive expansion and careful evasion. There are no levels or permanent unlocks; every time you enter the station, you start as a small crewmate and must build your power from scratch. This ensures that every session is a new opportunity to see how large you can grow before being overtaken. The 3D environment provides a clear view of the action, helping you spot potential targets or incoming threats from a distance. Success in the station depends on your ability to quickly identify weaker opponents while staying one step ahead of the strongest ones.
